Up to 95% of the dirt in buildings comes from outside. Every day we walk through a wide range of different rooms – offices, apartments, factories, schools, sales floors... And we rarely think about the traces we leave behind us, especially when there is rain or snow (not to mention road salt).
Since the company was first founded in 1881 Ruckstuhl has been weaving rugs from coir yarn, and is the only firm in Switzerland to do so today. The fibres are derived from the protective casing that surrounds the coconut. The machine-spun, long-pile yarn comes from Sri Lanka, and is exceptionally resistant to wear.
By contrast with many cheap coir brush carpets which are glued, the Porta mat is woven. The woven consistency guarantees greater concentration and firmness than is the case with glued rugs. The heavy coating on the back lends the mat additional stability and helps it to retain its shape.
Other advantages of the Porta are its good brushing effect, its capacity for absorbing moisture (about 15% of its own weight), its long service life and its propensity to age gracefully. The tannic acid in the coir fibre has cleansing and disinfectant properties. Coir fibre is a renewable raw material.
n order to serve as an effective dirt trap, entrance areas should be designed and built as cleanwalk zones. They should be of adequate dimensions. As a rough rule of thumb we can say that visitors to a building should take six paces on a dirt-absorbent surface if they are to get the dirt of their shoes. This makes an important contribution to cutting cleaning costs.
A professionally designed entrance area saves costly subsequent measures that will otherwise be needed. The size of the cleanwalk zone depends on the frequency with which it is trodden. Even at the planning stage you should take all entrances to the building into account, and see that the necessary insets are provided in the floors. This means that Porta can actually be used as an architectural design element. Every building needs to have a customised concept. We will be happy to advise you.
You can order Porta in any dimensions and in practically any form, making it suitable for every kind of building. We will supply you with a product that is customised to your situation and can be laid easily.
Printing. Porta can be printed with all kinds of writing or logos. Give your entrance area an individual note by welcoming your visitors with your own personal symbol. Both Porta and Porta cut-loop are obtainable with a linen band surround. We will be happy to explain to you the possibilities.
Porta comes in three colours – natural, anthracite and black. The natural colour is available in three pile depths – 15 mm, 20 mm and 25 mm – so the most suitable variant can be chosen in keeping with the building. Anthracite and black come in the 25 mm depth. We recommend that you lay the brush mat where it will not be exposed to the weather. Porta cut-loop comes in the natural colour, with a depth of 20 mm. Dirt barriers need to be cleaned as well.
