The architects’ office Claesson Koivisto Rune was founded by Mårten Claesson, Eero Koivisto and Ola Rune in Stockholm in 1995. They have since expanded the field they work in to include product design. The works of Claesen Koivisto Rune have received numerous prizes, including Designer of the Year 2011 (Elle Decoration Sweden) and the Designpreis Deutschland (Gold) of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2011. In 2004 Claessen Koivisto Rune was the first Swedish architects’ office to be invited to the Architecture Biennale in Venice. In the field of product design, they have developed designs for Arflex, Asplund, Blueair, Boffi, Cappellini, David Design, Dune, Established & Sons, Living Divani, Offecct, Paola Lenti, Swedese, Tacchini, Wästberg and other companies.
The design of the Palm Leaf carpet is distinguished by the two sets of tightly-packed, roughly parallel lines that meet. Where they meet they form a gentle curve that traverses the carpet’s surface. This curve, evocative of a palm leaf’s stem, is subtly emphasized by refined tufting techniques used to finish the lines, or “feather-leaves”, on either side. The finished lines, formed from either raised ridges or furrows, create a three-dimensional effect that’s both pleasing to the eye and a delight to walk over barefoot.
